What is church membership?
Church membership is assumed in Scripture and represents a group of like-minded Christians who join together for the purpose of fulfilling the church's mission. We use church covenants to describe our responsibility to God and one another in church membership.
What is the process to become a member?
Membership at LRBC has some prerequisites:
1. That you have professed belief in Jesus Christ by repenting from your sins and trusting in the finished work of Christ.
2. That you have been baptized by immersion as a testimony of your faith.
3. That you commit to the ascribed church covenants.
4. You must attend the LR 101 class and be affirmed into church membership by the congregation.
What are the church covenants?
Having been led by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
  • We will work and pray for the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
  • We will walk together in brotherly love, as becomes the members of a Christian church, exercise an affectionate care and watchfulness over each other and faithfully admonish and entreat one another as occasion may require.
  • We will regularly assemble for church services and faithfully pray for ourselves and others.
  • We will endeavor to bring up those under our care in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and by a pure and loving example seek the salvation of our family and friends.
  • We will rejoice at each other’s happiness and endeavor with tenderness and sympathy to bear each other’s burdens and sorrows.
  • We will seek, by divine aid, to abstain from sin; live godly and holy in the world; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale of, and use of destructive drugs and intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to shun pornography; abstain from homosexual acts; remembering that we have been buried with Christ in baptism and raised to walk in the newness of life.
  • We will serve faithfully and work together for the continuance of a faithful evangelical ministry in this church, as we sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines.
  • We will contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, those in need, and the spread of the gospel to all nations.
  • We will, when we move from this place, as soon as possible, unite with another church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s word.
May the Grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all.  Amen.
