How it all started...
In 1838, Little River Baptist Church began to bring the life-changing hope of the Gospel to the Penrose community. With just a handful of faithful believers, a church was launched. LRBC has survived the difficulties of civil war, the Great Depression, two world wars, and multiple changes in the cultural landscape. Throughout our rich heritage, we've seen scores of people come to faith in Christ. God has faithfully sustained and enabled our church to be a light on the hill for generations, and we pray that will continue for several generations to come.
But don't think that our church is the building! No, the church is the people of God who gather to worship, learn, live in covenant community, and proclaim God's goodness to the world. It was the conviction that the Gospel truly changes lives that led our church to be planted. We believe that the only hope for the world remains the same- Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

Expanding the vision...
A lot has changed in the years since LRBC first opened its doors. The rapid pace of life in our community and the world has created opportunities to minister to families, disabled veterans, schools, first responders, and retirees. We consider ourselves to be a church not only in the community but also a church for the community.
Currently, LRBC is engaged in local, domestic, and international mission partnerships. We support ministries that align with our values and advance God's Kingdom through their work. These include the local pregnancy center, Hispanic ministry, and veteran's care facility. We have partnerships across the state through NC Baptists, domestically through the Southern Baptist Convention, and internationally through the International Mission Board and independent missionaries serving in places like Haiti, Ukraine, the Philippines, and beyond!

Where we are headed...
The mission is incomplete until Christ returns. Therefore, it is imperative that we keep our eyes up and our hands extended to take the Gospel of Jesus everywhere we go. We aspire for every member to live as a missionary wherever they work, live, and play. That's why we are so passionate about equipping people to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12).
Beyond our community, we hope to equip pastors, church planters, and missionaries that we can send out to the far ends of the earth, all for the glory of Jesus Christ. If you want to shine your light (Matthew 5:14-16), we invite you to be a part of what God is doing at LRBC!
